We are a newly established family-centric, non-profit organization founded in Saskatoon, SK, by a diverse group of individuals united by purpose and passion for promoting kindness, support and a sense of humanity. Our mission is to serve our community by partnering with our government & other agencies to help meet the needs of families, parents, and individuals within our city and surrounding areas. Our vision is to organize, implement and execute nurturing and youth empowerment programs that will help enhance the lives of many children, young people, and their families.
Our very first fundraiser night is in the books. The fundraising dinner last November 26th held at Travel Lodge, attended by more than 150 guests, was deemed a great success. The program commenced around 6:30 pm when the music band serenaded our guests with their soothing music. When most people were sitting in their respective seats, the evening host, Ms. Maribel Cabreros, gave welcome remarks and acknowledged all the guests, families, and friends. Ptr. Amy Perez from Jesus Rock of Ages Saskatoon leads the invocation prayer to open the banquet.
The buffet dinner was very organized, thanks to the assistance of the hotel staff and directions from MyHumanitas volunteers. Guests were called by their table numbers if it was their turn to stand in line and get their food. They are delighted to fill up their plates with delicious and sumptuous dinner prepared by the hard-working Travel Lodge staff. While enjoying their food, MyHumanitas secretary Maria Salud helped facilitate the door prize rewards to some lucky guests.
Our board member, Rose Kumbu, introduces the night’s first speaker, Ms. Halima Mela. She is the wife of Dr. Mansfield Mela, founder of the forensic subspecialty in Canada and an award-winning teaching scholar at the University of Saskatchewan. She gave a powerful message about the importance of taking care of one’s mental health. She discusses her personal experiences of coping and overcoming stress while not neglecting the demanding responsibilities of being a mom and wife. The crowd was touched and very grateful for sharing her incredible testimony.
Ms. Isabelle Dena, MSW, RSW, the second speaker, talked about the importance of letting children play and how parents can support them. She explained the significance of encouraging children to engage in recreational activities. She discusses the positive effects that extracurricular activities can have on our children. Ms. Dena said extracurricular activities could help our children develop social connections, discover a sense of belongingness, instill discipline, help build self-esteem and self-confidence and more. She encouraged parents to invest in their kid’s interests and help them to engage with their interest activities.
“And this is what we (MyHumanitas) want to promote; we want to encourage everyone to practise more kindness and understanding, especially our children and the younger generation. Just do what is right, even in our little capacity. Let’s make our family’s life better, and let’s help make other’s life better too.”
Mary Jane Dabucol, Founder
The last speaker, Ms. Betty Mutwiri B. Ed, MA, PCC, gave a great message about the value and goodness of volunteerism and the importance of supporting family service organizations. She endorsed the organization and personally encouraged everyone to believe in the cause and support the mission and vision of MyHumanitas.
After those great words from the speakers, the founder of MyHumanitas, Mary Jane Dabucol, was introduced and asked to give some parting words. Ms. Dabucol acknowledges everyone for providing their utmost support to her newly established organization. She shared a short backstory on coming up with MyHumanitas Family Services. She explained what inspired her experiences as a wife, a mom, a foster parent, and an immigrant to start an organization that helps children and families. Mary Jane also discusses hurdles and hardships the organization experienced since it is still in its beginning phase.
Her message is about promoting kindness, practicing compassion and setting a good example to the younger generation. “And this is what we (MyHumanitas) want to promote; we want to encourage everyone to practise more kindness and understanding, especially our children and the younger generation. Just do what is right, even in our little capacity. Let’s make our family’s life better, and let’s help make other’s life better too.”, according to the founder.
She concluded her speech by presenting the founding board of directors of MyHumanitas Family Services to the public. She acknowledges all the guest speakers, charity groups, friendship centres, supporters, friends, churchmates, hotel staff and volunteers who attended and made the event a great success.
