About us

Background

MyHumanitas Family Services is a newly formed non-profit, family-oriented organization founded in 2021 in Saskatoon, SK, by Mary Jane Abad-Dabucol, a local working mom and foster parent. The organization was formed with the help and encouragement of trusted friends and colleagues who shared her passion for helping others. As a result, MyHumanitas Family Services was founded to provide assistance to immigrants, children in care, First Nations children, and their families without charge. As part of their mission to serve the community, they seek partnerships with other agencies and the government to understand and meet the needs of the families and residents of the city and nearby areas. As a family-oriented organization, MyHumanitas strives to inspire the younger generations and instill the values of kindness and caring so they can grow into compassionate and loving individuals. Our goal at MyHumanitas is to enable children to develop the necessary skills to achieve success in the future and become contributing members of society.

Etymology

We called our organization MyHumanitas Family Services, and  wonder what is humanitas? We derived our name  from the word “humanitas” a Latin word for kindness and humanity. Basically, MyHumanitas means my compassion, my empathy, and my humanity. We want to embody the very essence of humanitas and cultivate the kindness and humanity ingrained in our very nature that we need to carry out more. Keep doing what is right, even in our little capacity, promoting selflessness and being responsible. Making our family’s life better, and helping other’s life better too. The organization seeks to promote this and want to encourage everyone to practise more kindness and understanding, especially with our children and the younger generation.

Fundamental Values (What we believe)

We at MyHumanitas want to encourage and show our utmost support to the youth and children so they have a happy and full life as they grow up. We want them to succeed and capture their dreams. In all of our programs, we are dedicated to promoting and emphasizing respect. MyHumanitas views respect for every human being as an essential virtue, one that must be followed and practiced religiously. Our core value is to respect everyone no matter their race, age, background, status, or belief. Working together is important to us. We exist to aid families, community volunteers, bands, elders, and our government in inspiring our children and youth to lead positive and meaningful lives, as well as become productive members of society in the future. Also, the organization fosters a sense of belonging and ensures that all people are treated with respect.

And last but not least, we are a strong proponent of excellence, and we desire to excel in our calling to serve the people. We never stop learning and maintain our desire to keep evolving. We want to find ways to constantly improve the programs we offer and achieve excellence and satisfaction when we’re serving our community.
